Kilkerran, produced at Glengyle Distillery, shares a profound historical lineage with Springbank Distillery—one of Campbeltown's most revered producers. Revived in 2004 by William Mitchell, son of Springbank founder Archibald Mitchell, Kilkerran resurrects a family legacy dating to 1872. The brand embodies a distinctly independent character with a unique flavor profile that stands apart in the single malt world. Its rich, bright, and robust Campbeltown style offers immediate accessibility to newcomers while earning acclaim from seasoned connoisseurs for its authenticity and complexity. Kilkerran represents the proud, self-reliant spirit of Campbeltown's whisky-making heritage.

Timeline

1919 to 2000

The distillery changed hands multiple times, ceased production at one point, and served as a warehouse for a grain company.

2000

The distillery resumed production after 75 years of closure, with the founder's great-grandson Hedley Wright, then manager of Springbank, announcing the acquisition of Glengyle Distillery and launching the Kilkerran brand.

Late 19th century

William Mitchell left Springbank Distillery to establish his own distillery—Glengyle Distillery (predecessor of Kilkerran Distillery)—and operated it independently, becoming an independent brand.
