Old Forester is a historic Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey brand produced by the Brown-Forman Corporation. It holds the distinction of being the longest-running bourbon brand on the market, with continuous legal production since 1870—145 years as of 2016. It was the first bourbon to be sold exclusively in sealed glass bottles, a revolutionary quality guarantee introduced by its founder, George Garvin Brown, a former pharmaceutical salesman turned bourbon retailer. Brown's innovative bottling practice ensured product integrity and authenticity at a time when whiskey was commonly sold by the barrel. As the founder of Brown-Forman, his descendants continue to steer the company today. During America's Prohibition era (1920-1933), Old Forester was one of only ten brands granted a special license for medicinal whiskey production, cementing its legendary status in American whiskey history.
