Gerston Whisky tells the tale of two distilleries—a story of craft versus scale, heritage versus ambition. Gerston One (1796-1882) was a humble, family-run farm distillery nestled in the Scottish Highlands. Operating on a craft scale with minuscule production volumes, it perfected the art of creating exceptional single malt whisky that commanded respect from connoisseurs across the British Empire, with shipments reaching as far as Brazil and India. For over eight decades, the Swanson family maintained uncompromising quality standards, making Gerston a benchmark for artisanal Highland whisky. Gerston Two (1882-1898) emerged when new owners attempted to capitalize on this reputation by building an industrial-scale distillery with a massive 80,000-gallon annual capacity—nearly ten times its predecessor. However, within less than two decades, the venture collapsed. The soul of Gerston could not be manufactured; the spirit, character, and meticulous craftsmanship that defined the original were lost in the pursuit of volume. Gerston Two proved that true whisky excellence cannot be replicated by scale alone.
