Buchanan's is a prestigious Scotch whisky brand founded in 1879 by James Buchanan, a Scottish entrepreneur who emigrated to London and established himself as a successful whisky broker. The brand earned a Royal Warrant in 1898, cementing its reputation for excellence. In 1925, Buchanan's merged with Distillers Company Limited (DCL), the dominant force in Scotch whisky. Following DCL's acquisition by Guinness in 1986, Buchanan's became a cornerstone brand of Diageo, the world's leading spirits company formed in 1997 through the merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan. Buchanan's portfolio focuses on premium blended Scotch whiskies, led by the iconic Buchanan's Deluxe 12-Year-Old, a smooth, honeyed expression with citrus and vanilla notes; the sophisticated Special Reserve 18-Year-Old, featuring rich oak, dark chocolate, and dried fruit characteristics; and Buchanan's Master, a luxurious blend showcasing exceptional grain and malt whiskies. The brand holds particular strength in Latin American markets, especially Mexico and Colombia, where it is celebrated for its velvety smooth character and exceptional versatility in highball cocktails.
