Green Spot is a legendary single pot still Irish whiskey that embodies one of Ireland's last surviving merchant-bottling traditions. Produced by Mitchell & Son, a prestigious Dublin wine merchant founded in 1805, this iconic brand originated when the Mitchell family began sourcing new make spirit from Jameson's Bow Street Distillery, maturing it exclusively in sherry and bourbon casks beneath their historic Fitzwilliam Lane cellars. The name "Green Spot" derives from their 19th-century practice of marking exceptional casks with green paint for identification. The Spot Range employs a sophisticated color-coded aging system: Green Spot (10 years), Yellow Spot (12 years), Red Spot (15 years), and Blue Spot (cask strength 7 years), each representing distinct maturation profiles and cask compositions. In 2023, Green Spot Château Léoville Barton achieved global recognition by winning the World Whiskies Awards (WWA) "World's Best Single Pot Still Whiskey." This exceptional expression undergoes a unique 18-month finish in Bordeaux wine casks from the esteemed Château Léoville Barton, a Second Growth estate in Saint-Julien. The collaboration holds deep significance as the Barton family, proprietors of the château since 1826, trace their origins to Ireland, creating a profound transnational heritage link that celebrates both Irish whiskey craftsmanship and Bordeaux winemaking excellence.
