Pikesville
Pikesville represents the classic Maryland rye whiskey tradition—distinctively softer and less peppery than Pennsylvania or Kentucky ryes, making it exceptionally approachable. The brand thrived until Prohibition shuttered its distillery. After Repeal, savvy businessmen revived it, contracting Philadelphia's Continental Distillery to produce Pikesville rye. Operations changed hands until Standard Distillers ceased production in 1972. Remarkably, substantial aged stocks allowed Pikesville to continue selling for years, establishing it as the final Maryland rye. As these precious inventories dwindled to zero, the Maryland rye tradition itself vanished, making Pikesville both a liquid time capsule and the last chapter of a unique American whiskey heritage.
