Aber Falls Whisky Distillery stands as a landmark in the Welsh whisky renaissance, being one of only four whisky distilleries in Wales and the first to operate in North Wales since the early 1900s. Nestled near the majestic Rhaeadr Fawr (Aber Falls) waterfall at the gateway to Snowdonia National Park, the distillery occupies a 6,000 square meter Victorian-era building with a rich industrial heritage dating back to the 19th century. Originally a slate factory, the site later served as a margarine factory during World War I before becoming a beverage wholesale warehouse for Halewood International. In 2017, Halewood Artisanal Spirits, the Liverpool-based craft spirits division, embarked on an ambitious renovation project to transform the historic space into a world-class whisky destination. The distillery features traditional copper pot stills and utilizes pure water from the Aber Falls waterfall, creating a unique terroir-driven spirit. Their core range includes the Aber Falls Single Malt Welsh Whisky, along with award-winning gins and liqueurs. The visitor center, which opened in 2018, offers immersive distillery tours, tutored tastings, and blending workshops, making it a cornerstone of Welsh whisky tourism and craft distillation excellence.
