Černá Hora Distillery is located in the city of Black Mountain in the Moravian region. Following the historic European tradition of naming spirit producers after their geographic origin, renowned distilleries bear the name of their birthplace. The city of Black Mountain possesses written records of distilling dating back to 1298, boasting over 700 years of history and establishing it as the oldest whiskey-making tradition in the Czech lands. Founded in 1530 by brothers Tase Ernohorskeho z Boskovic and Jaroslav Ernohorskeho z Boskovic, the distillery operated through various leasing arrangements for centuries. In 1896, it achieved independent production as the Black Mountain Farmers' Distilling Company. Nationalized by the Czech government in 1943, the distillery remained under state control until 1996 when it was reprivatized and renamed Černá Hora Distillery, continuing its legacy of exceptional Moravian whiskey craftsmanship.
